Stoned
Romeos I bet many of you didn't know
that there was another Babjak guitar player. This one happens to be my
younger brother. He's very good at it also (he actually studied music
theory, unlike me). His name is Bill and he's also a great
songwriter. Some of you may have seen his band "The Nines"
perform with the Smithereens in the Bay area a few years ago. Doug Amey
was also a member of that band. They have regrouped with drummer Lorenz
Correlisen under a new name. They are now called The Stoned Romeos. I
suggested "The Smitheromeos", or "The Tex Remy's Younger
Brother Band" but that didn't fly. You know how siblings
can get. We do have the same taste in Scotch, so he's OK. Anyway,
please check them out and enjoy the music.
The Rock Snob*s Dictionary There's a wonderful lexicon of essential rockological knowledge in stores now written by David Kamp and Steven Daly entitled "The Rock Snob*s Dictionary." It is written with a great sense of humor. I highly recommend it. Check out this website for a preview of a few entries. Buy the book and you can be a rock snob too!
Kenny Howes His album, Until Dawn, is one of my favorite CDs. I love the passion in his songs and those Rickenbacker guitars rock! Kenny Howes is his name and he’s a great guy to boot! He likes his bourbon straight. A must for power pop fans.
True Love I highly recommend their self titled debut CD, True Love. No fillers on this one. Also, go see them play if you can. They are one of my favorite live bands.
Vinum Cellars If you're looking for some great California wines, this is the place to go. Very friendly down to earth people that make their own wine with lots of love. I've tried every selection they have and there isn't a bad one in the bunch.
The Grip Weeds What else can I say about this band? Every Grip Weeds release is a wonderful listening experience. They consistently rock at their live shows and put a lot of care into their studio work. They've been remixing some of their earlier material and it sounds even better then ever! I'm proud to know them.
Pat Dinizio My band mate since 1980, Mr. Pat DiNizio. Check here for his latest solo appearances and interesting news items.
Danny & Kim Adlerman My good friend and writing partner, Danny Adlerman. Danny and his wife Kim work on many projects with me including children's music/books/performances. Danny and I also got together with Kurt Reil of the Grip Weeds to form The BAR (Babjak, Adlerman & Reil). The 3 of us are working on an album that will surprise many people.
Mike Dalton Another good friend and writing partner, Mike Dalton. Mike and I have written numerous songs for the soap operas "Passions" and "Guiding Light". He is the leader of the Mike Dalton Band and performs every week at Jersey Shore clubs. He's a wonderful performer and one of the good guys.
White Castle When I quit smoking cigarettes for good in January of 2001, I also quit eating at McDonald's and some other fast food places. But, my beloved White Castle still has a place in my heart and my kids and I enjoy eating a sack every now and then. I've come to know many of the people that work at the main headquarters and they are truly one of the best companies out there. It's time to start thinking inside the box again!
Southern Culture On The Skids One of the best times I had this year was playing on the same bill with Mary, Dave and Rick, collectively known as Southern Culture On The Skids. If they are ever in your town, make sure you go to see them. A good time is guaranteed! Not only are they a great band, but they is also good peoples.
This Is Rock 'N' Roll Radio Westcott Radio has a show that you can listen to on the web called "This Is Rock 'N' Roll Radio" hosted by Dana and Carl. I know that there are tons of Internet radio stations, but their playlists are right up my alley. They're not afraid to play a mix from the past with the new, so give a listen to the best three hours of radio on the whole friggin' planet. Check their listings for airtimes.
Robles Roadcases Whenever I fly to perform a concert, I use my Robles Roadcase for my 1952 reissue Fender Telecaster. It fits most electric solid body guitars like a glove and has ultra thick padding. It even fits in the overhead compartment of an express jet! It's more durable than other brands I've used in the past. A favorite feature for me is that it's water-resistant in case you accidentally spill some Guinness on it. Personally, I never spilled any Guinness. I just mention this in case you have a tendency to do so. So, if you see a blue Robles Roadcase on someone's back at an airport, it might be Sir Paul McCartney, it might just be me, or it could be you! How's that for a plug?
Frank Galasso The man behind the caricature drawings of The Smithereens in Beatles clothes has a great site. Check it out!
